Reggia di Venaria with a private guide: tour itinerary

Our guide, licensed by the province of Turin, will lead you to delve into one of the remaining 17- and 18-century palaces left in Europe.
First, we'll go to the Court of Honor to admire the Teatro d'Acqua [Water Theater] of the Fontana del Cervo fountain. These world-famed water effects feature 100 jets of water, up to 12 meters high, steam, and colored pipes.
Next, you'll go to the ground floor where you'll find a faithful reconstruction of the Savoy court. Going up to the first floor, we come into one of the royal apartments that Victor Emanuel II turned into a palace after purchasing the estate in 1863. A long-time hunting enthusiast, this became one of his favorite places where he spent much of the year.
First, the "Castle of the Mandria," the residential complex, is totally devoted to the theme of hunting. The building is about 35,000 sq. m., in a rectangle of 280 meters by 100 meters with three internal courtyards. The tour with your personal guide will let you appreciate the magnificent original furnishings chosen by the court architect Domenico Ferri for the apartment interiors. We will first go straight into the Diana Room, named for the ancient Roman goddess of the hunt, to whom the entire palace is dedicated. Your guide will tell you about how the room has been recently restored and has ten hunting-themed paintings by Jan Miele. Next, you'll go into the personal rooms of the Duke and Duchess and those of the King and Queen. You'll continue through the Great Gallery, the Rondò Alfieriano, and end in the Chapel of St. Hubert.

In these rooms, you'll see over 500 works of art, including tapestries, paintings, sculptures, and furniture. In Princess Ludovica's apartment is a permanent exhibition of 17th-century paintings. Artists whose work is found here include Guercino, Rubens, Van Dyck, and Guido Reni.
The tour route continues through the Hall of the Arts, where temporary themed exhibitions are usually up. You will then see Javarra's Stables, a magnificent example of 18th-century European Baroque work. Inside the stables is the Bucintoro, the only extant example of Venetian gold galeae in the world.
Your guide will then take you inside the magnificent monumental gardens of the Venaria. The garden was designed in an "Italian-style" arrangement, i.e. divided into two parts. The Low Park features the Potager Royal, a 10-hectare fruit orchard inside, where you can purchase the produce grown here. In the High Park there are the great Allee, groves, and the Fantacasino, a complex you can tour on a horse-drawn carriage.
The Royal Venaria gardens and the entire palace estate are among Italy's open-air treasures. The gardens were recently restored with European Community funds and have become a major attraction for all visitors to Turin.
